About me: My name is Fredde, have been playing CS:GO since 2013 sitting at around 4.
5k hours ingame at this moment.
I have, like many others seen this game go from being super smooth/high performance to very laggy and stuttering, and every time i've tried to solve this problem (with decent success).
Back in the days i had an old PC, and i tried to do everything to increase my FPS to the max (the computer could handle between 100-200 fps using all the FPS boosting methods there was at that time with the lowest graphic setting (1024x768 blackbars) playing on my BenQ 120hz monitor.
.
.
In January 2016 i had saved enough money for a new computer (the one i still use), and in the beginning the computer had no problem running some solid numbers on most maps (on old Dust2 it wasn't that uncommon to see 700-900 fps at all times).
.
The years passed and it felt like every time Valve shipped a new update, the game felt worse, but there were always someone that found a "fix" to the problems, HRTF update, Panorama update, XboxDVR, to name a few.
.
Sure there were also updates that impacted the fps which could not be avoided (New player models / Animations, New hitboxes, Visuals on the maps and so on.
.
.
So slowly but surely my fps suffered in numbers, and i have tried to improve it as much as i can.

My computer setup / Resolution: CPU: i7 6700 GPU: GTX 970 RAM: 16 GB DDR4 Gaming Monitor: 120hz Ingame Resolution: 1680 x 1080 Stretched *Currently Workshop Benchmark (280 fps average) *Which is probably alot better than most of you guys reading this guide have, but i have tweaked the game alot using guides i've found on this forum, youtube and other sources.
The point of this guide is give you advice in how to increase your fps, try to remove micro-stuttering, configurations and how to find the best settings for your setup.

My recent problem: For the past months i have had some stuttering while playing, when i ran around in game the image micro stuttered all the time, and when i did engage an enemy and started shooting the game froze for a brief 0.
25 seconds (which is enough to f*ck up the aim in a fast situation when playing against good players, making it a revolver duel in wild west hoping for the best).
I spend almost 3 hours trying out different configs/settings/launch options, and in the end my fps didn't actally go up, but all the micro-struttering disappeared, and this what i will share with you guys! .

What can you expect from this guide? In this guide i will go through my current configuration, giving you some input about commands you could use to try improve your FPS, but also to get rid of that annoying stuttering, also giving you input about commands that seems to be outdated and not working as in the past.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO BEFORE FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE!

STEP 1 - Verify your game-cache (This repairs your broken game files, if you have had any issues with the game, you should always try this first and see if the problem still exists).
Howto: Steam > Library > Rightclick on Counter-Strike Global Offensive > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files.
.
.
(Let it complete and then start CS:GO, it will re-install directx which could take some minutes at most, this will not delete any of your settings ingame).

STEP 2 - Benchmark your FPS (For you to actually see if gets any better or worse) Download the benchmark from the workshop: Start CS:GO > Press on Play CS:GO (ingame) > Workshop Maps > Visit Workshop > Search for FPS Benchmark > Press Subscribe > Go back into the game > Pick FPS Benchmark and start the map.
or you can use this link, click subscribe and start CS:GO > Play > Workshop > pick FPS Benchmark and start.
https://steamcommunity.
com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=500334237&searchtext= When you are inside the map, pick CT and shoot in the middle of the big black board and let the map do its thing (dont touch anything, and when the benchmark is done, write down the FPS numbers on the phone/paper/note-document or something (or just remember it if you can).
NOTE: When you are about to do a change in the console or ingame and have been using the Benchmark already, be sure to restart your game inbetween or it will be off (the map will be preloaded and show a much higher FPS in the end).

STEP 3 - Save your current configs If anything goes wrong you can always reverse it! Howto: Rightclick on the desktop and make a new folder (name it CFG or something similar) Now go into: Windows (C:) > Program (x86) > Steam > userdata > STEAMID > 730 > local > cfg Copy all the files in the cfg map (or copy the map itself and paste it into the the map you did on your desktop).

STEP 4 - Make notes of your current NVIDIA settings For the same reason as the config, better be safe than sorry if your fps actually gets worse than it was before.

Things i tried that didn't work!

This will be a short go through about my testing and which cause me more FPS LOSS.
Turning OFF HyperThreading - This actually made me lose almost 50 fps average (alot of ppl recommend to turn this OFF if you got an i7, i remember this actually worked when i first got this computer, same as selecting cores in msconfig, but doesn't work anymore.
.
Locked CPU cores in Msconfig and BIOS.
Mat_queue_mode 0 / 1 / 3 (Now using 2 but -1 seems to be the same for me, same results when benching).
Tried out different combinations in the Nvidia Control Panel To find the best one for me (The one i did put into the Nvidia section was the best one) About the video settings, i did the same as with the Nvidia Tried out different "recommended" from youtubers and from a gaming forum on the web.
Adding and removing -high from launch options No difference so i deleted it.
Adding -threads (tried 1, 2, 4, 8, 12) All gave me big fps loss.
I tried to remove the Fullscreen Optimization from the csgo.
exe Which some guides were suggesting, but this gave me huge drop in fps.

Step 3 - In the same window > select Game bar > Turn it off! This is also called DVR which cause alot of problems for gamers, the program wants to record your gameplay in the background capturing your "moments" making it using all your computers performance instead of the game.

Step 5 - This is only for the really hardcore ones, change your background to a 1 colored one (i won't do it for a few fps) XD

Video Settings

These are the best settings i could find, give it a try! (Note that you can change your resolution to whatever you want, also feel free to play around with the other video options ingame if you want better visibility, depending on your computer - some options won't impact your fps that much in correlation to what you get in return).

Use these alongside your other commands: +cl_forcepreload 1 +fps_max 0 -nod3d9ex -d3d9ex -nojoy NOTE: You may also try with/without these two -nod3d9ex -d3d9ex, some say that nod3d doesn't work and d3d seems to work best with older computers.
If you wanna try without it: +cl_forcepreload 1 +fps_max 0 -nojoy .

Outdated commands that you should NOT use: -processheap -high

Config

These are the only "useful" console commands that you can use without impacting the gameplay Forcepreload making the biggest different which could give you alot of FPS pre-loading the maps texture, weather and sounds, the r_eye only removes the animation of all players eyes (which you don't make notis of anyway).
.
You can open the console by go into the game options and enable it "Enable Developer Console (~)" then go into your Keybindings and select a key for it.
If it's to advance for you, you can also type: -console in the launch options (which makes the console appear on the "home screen" in cs:go when you start the game).
r_eyegloss 0 r_eyemove 0 r_eyeshift_x 0 r_eyeshift_y 0 r_eyeshift_z 0 r_eyesize 0 sv_forcepreload 1 cl_forcepreload 1 mat_queue_priority 1

What you could try if the configs doesn't work for you!

Before you try these things, don't change them all at once, this will only make it harder to recognize what cause the issue and you may also lose FPS from one command and gain from another making it almost the same as before.

If you got an i7 CPU, you can try to disable HyperThreading It didn't work for me, but could maybe work for you if lucky! The default for most computers is to restart it, and as soon as you see the "brand logo" press the (DEL) key on your keyboard (DELETE), this will open up BIOS, go into CPU/CPU Customization and select HyperThreading, Disable - Press save and let the computer boot into Windows.
The key to go into BIOS could be different, but it always tells you in the bottom of the screen when the logo shows up (DEL,F8 or F12 are the most common ones) .
